BoldGrid is a unique site builder that is actually an extension to WordPress. This means that you can use BoldGrid to build your WordPress website without having to write code or use complicated tools.

In this article, we will show you how to build a great-looking and effective landing page using BoldGrid.

Just follow these simple steps and you’ll be on your way to having a professional looking live web page.

Choose Your Design

The BoldGrid dashboard looks almost identical to the WordPress dashboard with a few slight changes in the left sidebar menu.

When starting out, you need to first choose your theme, or design. This is done by going to “Inspiration” where you can browse new pages and themes. When you start out, you’ll choose a category and a theme. You can access all of the themes on WordPress, so the options are endless.

Simply review different themes that look good to you, take a look at the demos and how they look on different devices, and install the one you want.

Customize Your Website

In order to customize your site and add your own logo and site icon, click Customize and Active Site. This will look very similar to the customize feature in WordPress, but it is much simpler and easier to use.

Click each section to edit your site and customize it to suit your business. You can change the site title and logo, the website colors, the background color or image, which menus appear on the site, header and footer widgets, and more.

There are also advanced editing features where you can edit the header and footer settings and add your own custom JS or CSS code.

Remove the Menu

Every website has a menu, but landing pages are not like every other website. On a landing page, you want your visitors to do one of three things:

  • Click a button
  • Enter their details into a form
  • Purchase an item.

In order to keep visitors more focused, any other distractions should be removed.

Usually, landing pages have only one link, which is the CTA (call to action). You can add other links at the bottom of the page in the footer, such as Privacy, Terms, About, etc., but the main page should have a clear message and action for the user.

To remove the menu, go to Customize then Menus, and simply remove the selected menu from the dropdown lists.

Add Your Content

Since you aren’t creating any inner pages, you’ll be working only on the content of the homepage.

To do that, go to Pages and then choose your homepage.

This is where you’ll really see the benefits of using BoldGrid. Instead of code, text, or blocks, you’ll see the actual homepage design. You can click each section to edit it, change the text and images, and make it your own. You can also remove sections or drag them to a different location for further customization.

Add a Contact Form

If your main call to action is to fill in details, then you need a good contact form. Forms are provided using the NinjaForms plugin.

Choose one that is as close as possible to what you want and click Insert Into Page.

  1. In order to edit your form, go to Forms – Edit Forms in the left sidebar.
  2. Choose the form that you added to your page. You’ll be able to recognize it by its name (Form 1, Form 2, Form 3). Here, you can drag each section in the form to reorder it as you like.
  3. You can also click the little arrow next to each item in order to edit the text above it, the placeholder text, restriction settings, and advanced settings. On the left, you can drag in more form sections, such as address, country, text box, etc. and customize them.
  4. When you’re done, save and click Email and Actions. This is where you can create email notifications so that you’re informed when someone fills out the form.
  5. Click New Action, choose Type Email and fill out the details according to your preferences.
  6. You will have to do this again and choose Type Success Message in order to define the message that your visitors see when they send you the form.
  7. Once that’s done, you can go back to your homepage and make additional changes.

Add your form by clicking the blue menu icon. A new window will open and you will be able to choose from different form structures that are already installed. Choose the one you just edited and add it to your page.

WordPress Plugins

One of the great things about WordPress is the huge selection of plugins that you can install and use without much fuss. NinjaForms is one of these plugins, and it allows you to easily create forms without having to worry about coding or CSS changes. Other plugins we suggest you install are Jetpack and Yoast for SEO. They are very popular plugins and nearly all WordPress websites today start out with these two.

Jetpack

Jetpack is a single plugin that is actually made of over two dozen different useful plugins. With Jetpack, you can install them and update them all at once. These plugins allow you to add very useful features to your website, like social sharing, WordPress stats, and more. In order to install Jetpack, you need to create an account. It is completely free to install and use.

Yoast for SEO

Getting organic traffic is the ultimate goal because it doesn’t cost anything and the traffic is usually much more targeted. Yoast is a plugin that allows you to add SEO parameters to each page of your website. In this case, you will only have your main page and probably a few inner links from the footer. With Yoast, you’ll be able to add a title and description for each page so that you can control how it appears in search results.

To install plugins, simply click Plugins – Add New. Search for the plugin you want, or the feature that you need, and click Install.

Go Live with your Landing Page

Once you have everything ready, it’s time to get your landing page out there for your target audience to see.

Go to the Settings section and make sure that all of the settings are customized to your preferences and needs. Make sure that the site address and site titles are updated and then open your website in a new page to see how everything looks.

If some of your recent changes are not showing up, go to Pages and make sure that all of your pages are published and not just “Saved as Draft”.

That’s it, your website is live!

Test it out on different devices and screen sizes and go through the funnel like a regular user to discover possible errors or optimization opportunities. Once the site is live, every change you make is updated immediately, so you can instantly fix and see your updates.

Take your time to build a landing page that will appeal to your audience, provide them with a clear message of the benefits they are getting, and point them in the direction of the call to action.

With BoldGrid, you can create your page with less effort, expense, and time while still having the benefit of building on the WordPress platform. Find out more in our in-depth review.
