SiteBuilder is a website builder that is becoming increasingly popular among business owners and freelancers who have no design or development experience. This is because the system itself is very simple and straightforward while still offering quite a lot of flexibility in terms of editing and design.
Visit Sitebuilder.com
SiteBuilder is a drag-and-drop website builder with a very simple and easy to understand interface. The editing features combined with the drag-and-drop capabilities mean you get complete control over how your website looks. The only clear downside is the lack of widgets and plugins, which can be limiting if your website requires specific features that aren’t available. The templates cover a wide range of categories and are fairly simple in terms of overall look and appeal. Building a site from start to finish does not take very long and a standard site can be up and running within a couple of hours.

Pros & Cons

SiteBuilder offers hundreds upon hundreds of decent-looking templates, all neatly categorized to make it easier to find the one that precisely fits your needs. While the ability to code your own functionality is great, it would be even better if SiteBuilder were to offer more apps, widgets and functionality as standard. After all, a website builder is supposed to make things easy.
SiteBuilder’s excellent interface makes it a simple task to create a nice site in a few hours. The extensive customization options mean you can create something truly unique if you have the time and inclination. As with the excellent Wix website builder, SiteBuilder forces you to start your site from scratch if you want to switch to a different template. We like the insta-switch option offered by builders like Strikingly.
If your HTML skills are up to the task, the ability to add code widgets allows you to break free of the strictures of the builder’s set functionality.
Ideal for – SiteBuilder is great for anyone who wants to build a website without spending too much time or money on it. It is not very suitable for websites that require more advanced features, like an Instagram feed. While this can be added using a code block, that does mean that you would need to have a technical background. In addition, it is particularly great for designers who can’t code but want to build a website while editing the design completely.

Ease of Use

The SiteBuilder interface operates very much like the one provided by Wix. It is very intuitive. You simply click the item you want to edit and drag it to any location on the screen. There are no fixed grid locations, so you can move items by a millimeter in any direction if you like and even place items on top of each other.
The editing features are particularly simple and easy to understand. When clicking an item, its menu and editing options automatically pop up on the right of the screen.
On the left, there is a very simple and minimalistic menu that allow you to add items to your pages, add pages to your site, edit and add sections to each page on your site, design your site, and work on your blog. You can also view your site stats and manage technical aspects of your website like SEO content, favicons, and redirects.
In general, the interface is suitable for people who don’t have experience in design or coding, but you should take into account that this level of design control can sometimes be confusing if you aren’t a designer.
For the inexperienced, it is best to choose a template that doesn’t require moving around too many objects.

Plans & Pricing

SiteBuilder offers a 100% free package when you first register. However, the free domain name that you get is actually a subdomain which will include the SiteBuilder.com brand in your site’s name. SiteBuilder, like most website builders, will place ads on your free site. In order to prevent that you’ll need to upgrade your account to one of the paid packages.
The Pro or Premium plans SiteBuilder offers include a free domain name for life, an advanced set of SEO tools, business email and priority support. Being a Pro or Premium account member will give you the tools to rank higher in search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo.
If building an online store is what you aim at, SiteBuilder offers an enhanced eCommerce builder at a competitive price.
There are frequently great price reductions on offer, with SiteBuilder currently offering 35% off all packages exclusively for Top 5 Website Builders users.

Features

Mobile Optimization All of the templates on SiteBuilder are mobile-friendly and you can preview your site in the builder to see how it looks on mobile phones. This feature requires upgrading from the free to one of the premium packages. Once you upgrade, your site will automatically be mobile-friendly and any changes you make in the main site will be updated instantly on the mobile version. This way, you don’t have to work on two separate websites and keep track of all the changes you make.
1_25
Seo Tools & Marketing: There are several places to edit your site for search engines. Clicking Manage at the bottom of the site builder allows you to edit your main site’s description, title, and more. You can add site descriptions and titles for each page on your site by going to the page settings. It is very straightforward and simply. Users who upgrade to one of the premium packages can also access the stats feature which shows you detailed information about the traffic activity on your website.
Social Media Tools: SiteBuilder doesn’t have a large selection of social tools and widgets, but there are a few basic ones that you can add to your site. Clicking “Add” in the site menu will show you different social features that you can add such as like and share icons for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn. You can also add a Facebook plugin that allows users to add comments using their Facebook profile, which can significantly increase your exposure on social networks. If you’d like to share your social feeds, only Facebook and Twitter are available, but you can use embedded code to add feeds from other social networks like Instagram or Pinterest.
eCommerce: eCommerce is available on SiteBuilder, but requires an upgraded account to access the store features. Once you’ve upgraded, you can easily add a store from the main menu. Managing the store is very simple and you can control how it looks with only a few clicks and drags.
Apps and Plagins: There isn’t an app store or market for plugins on SiteBuilder. In the “Add” menu, there are a limited number of widgets that you can add to your site. If you have a technical background and know how to code, you can use a widget to embed code and add any feature you’d like to your site. If you don’t know how to code and still need a widget that isn’t there, you may be able to copy-paste code from a third party. For example, if you want a Pinterest feed, you can copy and paste code from the Pinterest website.

Design and Templates

SiteBuilder has over 700 templates to choose from so it is best to use their search or categories to find the ones that are relevant to your business. There are 22 different categories you can browse, including Blogs, Weddings, Music and Entertainment, and One-Pagers. The templates themselves are not as impressive as something a professional designer would create, but they do look professional and with a little editing can be adjusted to your brand. Make sure to really give this step thought because you can’t change your template once you’ve started editing it.
While the templates themselves don’t offer much variety in terms of layout and design, the fact that you can really customize every single aspect of your template makes up for it, but that requires a little bit of design skill.

Support and Tutorials

SiteBuilder has a Knowledge Base where you can browse articles on getting started or specific features and capabilities like adding content, designing your site, and social media.

You can also browse the frequently asked questions or use the search field if you have something specific in mind. On the main help center page, you can review all of the billing-related articles in case you have a billing question.

If you still need assistance after searching the help center, you can send the SiteBuilder support team a ticket or call them directly on their US/UK/Australia numbers. Support via email and phone is available 24/7, and premium support is available for upgraded users.

The Final Word

Overall, SiteBuilder is a very convenient site builder for building customized websites. The design control is very extensive and allows you to edit everything about your template, from the colors and fonts, to the background of every section on each page. The interface itself is very easy to understand with clear icons and menu buttons that make the whole editing process simpler and faster. It is best suited for simple websites that don’t require complicated features due to the lack of plugins and apps.

This site really does need to make its terms and prices clearer. I ended up purchasing it before I was really sure what I wanted then deciding to go ahead with a domain name of my own checked the price but on purchasing found that it was to cost my four times as much, considering its a website builder it may do well to look at its own design. I’m not saying the actual facilities offered are poor because they are quite good but they really need to be upfront on the full costs of each item before leading you into pressing the purchase button. If like me you are low on finance and just starting out beware of this one until they become more transparent on priceing.

I had e domain names registered with Sitebuilder and getting support to transfer them was an act of congress…NO, NO, NO, It was worse and to get support to answer an e-mail message is even worse!
I would not recommend this site to anyone.

What plan offers: 1. Unlimited amount of images that I can add to my site,. 2. What amount of storage is offered. 3. Amount of pages allowed? I am interested in an ecommerce option – What is the cost for a Buy Now button, and do you work with an outside ecommerce site – if yes, who?
Thank you very much for your help and I look forward to a reply.

Signing up and building the website is the easy part, in my humble opinion, but what I’m really very interested in is what tools do you have that will drive customers to my site or have my site show up in the first few listings when someone does a web search using Google. Yahoo, Bing, etc….
My business is a courier/delivery and even a bit of trucking.
    Thanks

Is SiteBuilder good for displaying media (videos) and can you upload podcasts?

    Reply
    • Kelly

      Hi Keisha,

It’s really easy to upload media to your SiteBuilder website. A load of different video formats are supported, as well YouTube and Vimeo embeds, so whatever video content you want to have on your site, it shouldn’t be a problem.

As for Podcasts, there is a podcast template page, or you can create a new page exactly to your liking and make it a podcast page. Then, all you have to do is upload your files (again, a variety of formats are supported) and SiteBuilder will take care of creating the RSS feed so that your visitors can subscribe to your podcast from whatever player they use. To get started with SiteBuilder today, click here.

      Good luck!

We’d recommend going for the Pro or Premium packages, which cost $4.99 and $7.79 respectively. If you’re setting up an online store or need payment processing, then the eCommerce package is the one you want, at $11.99 per month.
All of these packages give you a free domain for life, free email address with the name of your site, and all the tools you need.

So I want to create an eCommerce website for a business I want to start. The business centers around my business providing scenic/restaurant tours. It will consist of private tours or open tours with limited number of seats. Tours can be flexible times. How do you suggest I go about finding out of there are templates available. I am interested in the whole package that Sitebuilders has to offer, like SEO, ecommerce, etc … Also how do I get more information on how monetary transactions are performed like security, transaction fees, refunds, etc… Sorry for all the questions, but I am new to this.

    • Kelly

      Hi Rick,

You shouldn’t have any problem at all building the site you describe using Sitebuilder.com. It’s simply a question of finding a template you find visually appealing and adding the functionality you require. In this case you’ll probably want contact forms, schedule functionality and payment processing.
As for financial transactions, most website builders do not charge a fee, although you’ll have to check directly with your bank, and with whichever payment solutions you plan on accepting (credit card, PayPal, etc.).
Feel free to get back to us with any questions you might have. Once you’re ready, you can get started with sitebuilder right here.
      Good luck!

Hello, I am trying to use the free version of sitebuilder.com, but each time i save a page, it override previous page. i need to make sure it works properly for me before i upgrade. can you advise how to fix that? Also, for upgrade pkg when it says price for two years, will you charge the total two years upfront or just a monthly charge for two years commitment term? I appreciate your reply.

      Hi Angel,
I’m not entirely clear from your question what you’re trying to do. Are you having trouble adding additional pages to your site? Or are you trying to save multiple versions of the same page?
As for the second part of your question, the two-year package comes with excellent savings, but you’ll have to pay the full amount upfront. You can get started here.

When you sign up with Sitebuilder.com you get the option to choose between their three different plans, with a table showing what features are available with each package. You simply have to choose the plan that best suits your needs. That’s it.

Upload your image to the gallery. Click on the image you want to change and in the “Gallery>Image” window select “Edit Item Content”.
Click on the small image in the window and click “change”. Chose your image (doubleclick) and click “Finish”.
      Hope that helps!

After spending an hour or should I say wasting an hour building my site, I uploaded my image which lost all it quality? I was informed that images uploaded cant be more than 980px??? This looks terrible and means the site is totally unusable with low quality like that? Yet the sample images are high quality?

After selecting a template and editing, why can’t I save to the domain name I paid for, nestreboot.com? Why do I get the message “As a free user, your website will;l be on a subdomain: myfreesite.net. You can choose your own domain later.” This seems to be the only option I’m offered when trying to save.

    Reply
    • Kelly

      Hi,
It sounds like you’re using the free version of Sitebuilder.com. It can be used only with a subdomain: yourcompanyname.myfreesites.net
If you want to connect nestreboot.com to your website you’ll need to upgrade to one of the paid packages.

      Hi Danielle,

The premium plan does include domain transfer, free email, SEO tools and hosting as part of the package. The only thing it doesn’t include is eCommerce tools, but you shouldn’t really need that in your particular case.
      Good luck with the site!

    Hi, Kelly:
I already have a website but it is incomplete, in that some of the features do not function. I built it myself and not knowing the technical aspects. Currently I’m being hosted by SiteGround. I just want some certain features to work. Can I achieve this thru you? Thanks

    Reply
    • Kelly

      Hi Ramon,
As you probably know, SiteGround is a hosting service rather than a website builder. If you’re using a CMS like WordPress or Joomla, you may find the learning curve is pretty steep. Website Builders offer easy site creation, and hosting is included in the package, which makes them perfect for novices.

I was very unhappy with Site Builder. The reviews I read stated that this website allowed you to make websites for FREE. After signing in, I realized they were setting up a billing plan for my account. I think that it would have been a great option, had I not been looking for a free website builder. The main reason I am not satisfied with the site is that it lied to me saying there was no cost. I just wanted to confirm this so maybe other customers can be aware and maybe the site shouldn’t say “100% free” on the home page. Thanks

    Reply
    • Kelly

      Hi Phil,
SiteBuilder has actually two options: free and non-free. You can build your website for FREE and that’s true. With the free builder you get full functionality, however you won’t have a unique domain name. Your URL will look like (subdomain). If you decide to connect a unique domain name e.g. http://www.yourcompany.com you will have to purchase a basic package. SiteBuilder offers you the chance when you register to choose a unique domain name or to connect the one you already own. In both cases you will have to purchase a basic package. If you would like to use a free version, you can click on their logo at any stage and you will get to the page with numerous templates. Choose the one you like most and start creating your website for free. When you are done, click on “Save” button in the top menu, choose the subdomain for your website and click “Save my site!”. If you need any help, feel free to drop us an email or talk to our experts on live chat. Good luck with creating your site!

    Hi Kelly,
What is the breakdown for all the packages offered by Website Builders?

    Reply
    • Kelly

Hi Garmon, Most of the website builders offer a number of packages, depending on your needs. The basic package allows you to connect your own unique domain name. This package is perfect for a newbie who has just started building a website. You will need an advanced package if you want to promote your site with free advertising credits, get rid of the ads on your website, get a free domain and to use advanced tools. If you are building an ecommerce website, you will chose a dedicated package which includes all the essential features and tools for running an online store.
