WooCommerce is one of the most popular e-commerce plugins for WordPress for a reason – it has a lot to offer. Firstly, as open-source software it can be downloaded and installed for free, and you can pretty much setup your entire online store for no cost.
However, a wide range of themes and plugins are paid-for, meaning you may end up having to pay for certain features if you need them and cannot find a free version. That being said, there are so many to choose from that you can likely find a lot of what you need for free.
Additionally, coming to grips with the interface can be difficult, especially without a prior understanding of WordPress. But, by using all of the great support and tutorials available for WooCommerce, getting a quality e-commerce site up and running can certainly be done.

Pros & Cons

Open source so free to use Advanced features and plugins might not always be free
Comprehensive e-commerce features User interface can be difficult without prior WordPress experience
Great backend operations for managing your business Need a hosting company
Hundreds of themes and plugins
Ideal for – WooCommerce is ideal for anyone familiar with running a WordPress website that is looking to monetize that site through an e-commerce platform, although any individual looking to set up a WordPress site to sell goods or services.

Ease of Use

WooCommerce can be difficult or simple to use depending on your experience with WordPress. Anyone familiar with WordPress (and there are many of you) should not have an issue implementing the e-commerce plugin; however, those with limited experience may find it rather difficult in the beginning.

Yet compared to e-commerce software, coming to grips with the interface of WooCommerce should be simple enough. This can be made easier by watching the various tutorials provided by WooCommerce, which give clear instructions on how to setup and use the various features of the platform.

Once installed, you can choose from a free basic theme or paid-for premium theme for your online store, after which you begin adding the various products of your store through the editor tool. Again, this can be hard to come to grips with initially, but once you get started and use available online resources for guidance, tips and advice, it becomes easy enough to use.

After all the necessary information has been entered, you can add attributes and further categorize your products, before publishing the final version. Should you need to edit anything or add more functions, products, or info, you can do so by selecting WooCommerce admin tab from the WordPress dashboard.

Plans & Pricing

Free Version
WooCommerce is free to use as it is open-source software just like WordPress, so there’s a lot that can be created for no cost. You can download and install the software for no charge at all, including no monthly payments
However, even when using the free versions of both WordPress and WooCommerce, you will need to pay for a hosting plan, though these fees are relatively low.
Better still, many of the plugins and themes are available for no extra fee, making it possible to pay nothing besides your hosting fee for an online store using WooCommerce.

Premium Plans

While there are no set premium plans you have to choose from, WooCommerce offers a wide range of themes and plugins that you will need to pay for. You might find that the more advanced themes and extensions are paid-for, and many users will find themselves paying for features that are necessary for their site.
With that being said, the sheer selection of plugins and themes makes it more than possible to find everything you need for free, and even if you have to pay for a plugin or two you can be sure that it won’t be excessively expensive.
