Web.com is considered one of the most affordable DIY site builders on the market, with basic packages that include a domain name starting at $1.95 a month. While they don’t offer a free package like other popular site builders, they do offer low prices and, combined with their simple site builder, they are a very popular choice among business owners and online stores.
Visit Web.com
In short, Web.com is a great solution if you don’t need any complicated or customized features and designs on your site. You can easily create a simple and professional website for your business or ecommerce store at affordable prices. There are hundreds of template designs and colors to choose from, and editing a website is extremely straightforward and simple, making it a great solution for people with zero design or coding experience. That being said, it is not the most flexible site builder out there, and is not suitable for business owners who want to be able to edit every single aspect of their design and layout.

Pros & Cons

Competitive Pricing  – Web.com’s starting prices are great, with a basic package beginning at just $1.95, with a free domain name. Better for Simple Websites – The problem with a site builder that’s simple enough for anyone to use is that that it only allows you to create simple sites. Such is life.
Straightforward Interface – Unlike some well-known website builders, Web.com really is for beginners and non-techies. Mobile Site Limitations – That you have to pay to have a mobile version of your site is pretty crazy to us. This is a feature that is an absolute requirement, and one that many competitors offer as standard.
Strong Marketing Suite – You get all of the SEO and marketing tools you’ll need to make your site shine. You can also pay for extra services if you require them.
Ideal for – Web.com can be used by anyone who needs a website, whether it’s for a local business, professional portfolio, personal website, or eCommerce site.
We found that it was especially well suited to online ecommerce businesses, or professionals who don’t want to spend much time on building or maintaining a website. The site builder is extremely straightforward and they have a “Do it For Me” package for users who prefer that Web.com pros create the website for them.
In addition, it is great for businesses that plan on investing in marketing their site, as the more advanced packages include a number of marketing and promotion features such as email marketing and SEO tools, and SEO consultations with the Web.com experts.

Ease of Use

The site builder is extremely easy to use and is similar to other popular WYSIWYG and drag and-drop builders, giving you full control of the items on your site.
It is very intuitive, and finding the menus and additional features is easy without having to go through the tutorial and beginner’s guide when you start.
Right-clicking any item on the site will show you its menu, allowing you to edit it, add effects, delete it, and more.
A unique feature, at least when it comes to site builders, is the spell checker at the top of the page, which means you don’t have to type your text in a Word document and then copy-paste it in order to avoid typos. You can type your text directly into the site builder and find any errors as you go along.
Adding new items to the site is very simple. The side menu on the left has six buttons: Content, Images, Media, Apps, Social, and Docs. You can click the item you’re interested in to see a list of items you can add to your site. Once you’ve chosen, simply drag the item you want to the desired location on the site and that’s it.
The grid lines help you see where text and images can be viewed on your site and items snap into place if you move them out of the designated area to avoid any design issues when you go live.

Plans & Pricing

Unlike many of its competitors in the website building space, Web.com doesn’t offer a free plan that might allow you to give the platform a test drive. Perhaps that’s because it is a hosting company that offers a website building platform, rather than a pure website builder like Wix or SiteBuilder.
Website Builder – A plan best suited for individuals getting started online. For an introductory price of $1.95 (rising to $22.95 after the first month) you get a free domain name, and access to all of the templates and free stock images.

Website Builder and Online Marketing – This plan is more suited to startups, small businesses and freelancers. Starting at $2.95 for the first month (then rising to $32.95), you get everything present in the Website Builder plan, plus a business profile in dozens of local search engines, submission to Google, Yahoo and Bing, and an SEO consulting service with a Web.com expert.

Website, Marketing and Store – If you want to start your own online store or accept payments for services, this is the plan to choose. You get all of the above features as well as the ability to sell up to 500 products, accepting credit card payments via a secure shopping cart. The first month is priced at $3.95 per month, with subsequent months charged at $39.95.

Features

Mobile Optimization Unlike many of its competitors, Web.com offers a mobile site only as part of a more advanced package. The “mobile theme” costs $4.95 a month on top of the cost of your existing package, and allows you to add and manage a mobile version of your site. There are not many options in terms of design when it comes to the mobile site so if you want more control or have a lot of mobile traffic coming your way, this may not be the best site builder for you.
Seo Tools & Marketing: On Web.com, you have a number of SEO features to choose from in order to promote your website in Google’s search results. The most expensive package comes at around $300 a month, and includes complete SEO support and services and monthly consulations with a dedicated SEO expert. If you prefer to do everything yourself, you can contact their support to get SEO tips on writing strong content or sign up to one of their SEO programs to learn about analytics, link building, and getting found in search engines.
Social Media Tools: There are very basic social media tools in the main site builder menu that allow you to add links to your social profiles or share/like buttons. The social networks supported are: Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, and Twitter. Additional profile buttons that link to your social network profiles are available, including YouTube, MySpace, and Pinterest, though you can also add a regular image with a link if the network you want is not there.
eCommerce: If you choose the ecommerce package, you can quickly set up a shop and sell up to 500 products. Payments include PayPal and credit cards.
Apps and Plug-ins: The Web.com site builder does not have an app store and only offers a limited number of apps, such as a search box and map. You can, however, add an HTML snippet to your page for custom code.

Design and Templates

There are hundreds of different templates to choose from when creating a site on Web.com, and each one comes in different color variations so you can easily find one that is perfect for your needs. The designs themselves are fairly simple and not particularly impressive compared to the more expensive website builders, but they still look very professional and user-friendly.

Templates are divided into industries, and you can browse them by industry to find options that are more relevant to your business. You can also choose a blank template if you have your own design in mind and would like to start from scratch.

Editing a template is very simple with an easy-to-use drag-and-drop interface. Once you choose your theme, there isn’t much you can change in terms of the design. You can edit the background image and color and customize font styles, but since there is no CSS or HTML customization available on Web.com, you need to choose a template that is closest to what you want for your final site.

Support and Tutorials

Web.com offers a number of video tutorials and guides for beginners, as well as a help center with articles on many different topics. If you require additional assistance, you can contact their support team via phone or email. If you need something urgent, it is best to call since their email response time can take anywhere from 24 hours to 4 days. Cancelling your account can only be done by calling their support team 8 AM – 8 PM (EST) Mon-Fri.

The Final Word

Overall, Web.com is a very simple site builder with limited features and not a lot of support. Given its price and ease of use, it’s a great solution for users that don’t want to invest much time or money in their website and aren’t looking for unique designs, layouts, or features.

Very few of Web.com’s support, if any, know what they are doing! My site locked up, for months, MANY phone calls, still locked up, switching to WIX.com, losing my domain name because they couldn’t release it to WIX.com for some reason they couldn’t figure out. Been using Web.com since 2013, not a friendly “website builder”, HOURS on hold. I can’t think of anything positive to say about Web.com other than I’m gone!!!!!!!

I don’t want to select a domain name from a website that won’t work for me. FIRST I need to see your templates. If you don’t have a template that works for me, then it’s none of your business what domain name I wish to use.

Eric – Thanks so much for your honest reviews. I am surprised, however, at the number of folks that presume you either work for this company or own it! Guess some just don’t read this very well. (I see this happening in a lot of social media.)
    Have a great day

I authorized a charge one time to use this builder and immediately canceled, only to be charged again unauthorized. I can not get any support or even a response back. for a company that pleads that they give support immediately means they are liars. I am a student who was asked to check this website builder out, only to deal with overcharges to my empty account. Unless you are someone that is sure for certain that you want this website builder, don’t do it. There are many other easy to use website builders that do not require a dime for you to try to see if you like it. Weebly is the best. I highly recommend them.

Eric, If this is your company and you think you are making a lot of money, I suspect you would make a lot more if you were upfront with people about over all cost. As I read some of the comments three thoughts came to mind: 1) You act like the old used car salesman reputation with which most are familiar; 2) You responded to almost every question, with the exception of those requesting more detailed pricing. 3) If this shady tactic is how you run your business, you just lost my business.

      Hi Rita,

Sadly, I’m not the owner of Web.com. To address your other point, the costs of the various Web.com packages (both the introductory and regular pricing) are clearly stated under the Plans & Pricing section of the review above.

      Best,

Web.com offers nothing whatsoever that could in any way be considered free. Why is it on a list of free website builders and make false claims that are refuted in the same sentence claiming it’s free? Hey, geniuses, a free domain name starting at $1.95 a month costs exactly $1.95 a month. I think maybe you don’t know what that word means. Offering a cheap introductory price is not offering anything for free.

Why is the monthly price after the initial month such a secret? I am interested in the Website Builder & Online Marketing package, but would never enter into any sort of agreement without knowing up front what it’s going to cost.

Web.com does not give any information on price outside of the very small price for the first month. They usher you straight into signing up without one mention of how much you will have to pay after the initial first month. Now, anyone with any kind of common since would not sign up without that vital information. It baffles me on why Web.com doesn’t realize that.

The cost of $1.95 is only for the first month…then it goes up quite significantly. You might clarify that.

I’m wanting to redesign my website which is currently hosted by another provider. is it possible to change the hosting company and what happens to the current site? I also have a estore through volusion and would like to keep it there. is it possible to add multiple links to my store

    Reply
    • Eric

      Hi Cullen,

It depends on your current hosting company and website builder you used to build a website. If it is a regular hosting company and CMS, there won’t be a problem to transfer the website to a new hosting provider.
As for linking to your Volusion store, that shouldn’t be a problem at all.

      Good luck!

Eric I had a consultation on the Phone with Drew and told him I needed a Website for a new personal training company and all he offered me was the 124.00$ option as if there were no others and I told him I didnt need a store ??

      Hi Nikki,

Thanks for getting in contact. Just for clarity’s sake I should point out that we are not associated with Web.com. Top 5 Website Builders is an independent review and comparison site. That said, we’d be happy to help out. The first question I have is, do you want to accept payments on your site? If you do, then you’ll probably need to go for an eCommerce package even if you aren’t planning on setting up a store.
If you don’t need to take payments then Web.com’s standard Website and Online Marketing package should be all you need. You can get started here.

Hi Eric, I’m thinking to create a web site to get reservations for my B&B in Italy starting in may2016. Will I be able to do so with your plan WM&Store for 3.95/month? Do you increase the price after the first month or year? Will i have visibility and how? Thanks, Giulia

    • Eric

      Hi Giulia,

The website, marketing and store package from web.com should give you all the functionality you need for your B&B website. The $3.95 price is a special introductory offer that applies to the first month only. For more information, check out the web.com site.
      Good luck!

Eric, I need a web site for my new business of childrens clothing. Is it necessary to have it built by a professional, have it marketed in the search engines and pay$125.00 per month. Thanks

    Reply
    • Eric

      Hi Dee,
Web.com provides all the tools you need to create a search engine-optimized, professional eCommerce site. The drag-and-drop tools are very user-friendly, even for beginners. However, the maintenance and ongoing marketing of such a website can be time-consuming. You need to decide how your time is best spent on making your business a success. It may be that outsourcing the marketing and maintenance of your website is the way to go. If that’s what you decide, with a little shopping around you may be able to find a better price than $125 per month.

Hi Eric—— I have a website and a personal youtube channel. No Facebook page yet. Can web.com essentially, enhance my website, create a Facebook page and integrate everything?? If so, at what rough initial cost and then, monthly cost. Also, what are the basic contractual terms?? Can I terminate at anytime if I am not satisfied after all is set up, and assuming I have paid my fees??? Chuk

      Hi Chuck,
Building a Facebook page and integrating it into your website is not a big deal at all. If you managed to build a website, I am sure you can handle connecting your Facebook page to your website.
Web.com has an online marketing package: Facebook Boost. They can build your FB page and promote it. I would suggest you contacting web.com customer support to find out all the details.
      Good luck!

Hi Rhonda, Having a blog for your website is a great idea. To send all your new blog posts to your subscribers you would need to install an app ( check apps section) for gathering emails and then make a set up when you publish a new post to send it automatically to all your subscribers.

Hey there! I am using web.com and very happy with their solution though they don’t have a free trial and you have to pay from the very start. They are a marketing company but offer a good software. The only issue with them is the security. They have ridiculous password requirements! When I forgot it and called support, they wanted to verify my account by checking my password! SO make sure you write down your password.Other than that, they have a good choice of templates and very intuitive user interface.
