Want to build your website but not entirely sure how to get started? It may not seem this way at first, but building your own website is a quick and simple process which does not require any background in design and coding. All you need is a little guidance like anything else learnt for the first time, and that is our top priority to ensure you have everything you need to build a well performing website. Without any further ado, here are the 5 steps for creating your own fabulous website from scratch.

1. Get a Domain Name

The first thing to decide is which name you want your website to go by. This is what a “domain name” actually means. Your chosen domain name should be catchy and easy to spell as that’s how people will be able to find you online. Think of your domain name as your own online address.

An example for a domain name: top5-websitebuilders.com.
Most website builders provide you with a free domain name once you purchase a package, such as, SiteBuilder, iPage, and Web.com. Click here to learn more about domain names.

2. Choose a Web Hosting Provider

A Web host simply provides space on the Internet for your website. In order to get your website noticed and viewed by everyone else in the world, you’ll need a web hosting. Just like you save your favorite movies, photos, etc. on your computer, a web hosting provider saves your website data on their computers.
Many website building platforms offer a reliable hosting solution as part of their packages, thus assuring your site is always up and running for Internet users to come and visit.

Examples of website builders offering hosting as a part of package: SiteBuilder, Wix, Web.com

3. Plan & Design Your Web Pages

Once you have your domain name and web hosting service, it’s time to plan and design your future website. What is your website about? Is it a company website, blog or news portal? The entire website interface, navigation, and content depends on your site’s type. If you’re a web building newbie and can’t exactly brag about your technical abilities, know that every web builder offers an easy-to-use WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) web editor. You also have a “preview” option of seeing how your site is going to look like before actually publishing it, and customize accordingly. Such editors have a huge library of pre-designed templates created by professional graphic designers. Grab the one you like and start creating, you don’t need any previous experience in design or coding. It’s that easy!

4. Publish, Promote, & Get Your Site Noticed

When your website is ready to be published you can submit it to search engines like Google and Bing. If you have no clue on what to do exactly, not to worry! Website builder providers will do it for you automatically using their own algorithm. You can also promote your website with paid ads and benefit from $375 you get as part of package from SiteBuilder.com to boost your online presence. Make sure to share your website with your friends, colleagues and other people using social media networks like Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

5. Test Your Website

When you design your own website ensure it looks great on different browsers, such as, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and mobile. People surf the net using different browsers, so making sure they all view your website properly is important. One of the main advantages in using a website builder is an optimized template for mobile and all the most popular browsers. While choosing your template you know in advance how it will look on a mobile device.

Doesn’t look that complicated, right? These 5 steps will pave an easy way for you to get started. Boost your online presence using one of the Top 5 Website Builders and build your stunning website today!

-customers being able to leave reviews/feedback of my work
-live updates and queries/questions regarding current jobs from customers that i can reply to
    -good list of work photos
-quick and easy to use for my customers
-advice on how to get to the top of search engines

      Hi Tony,

It sounds like you’re thinking along the right lines already in terms of the content for your site.

      You might also consider:

      – An ‘About Us’ page detailing your experience, etc.
      – Integrating your company Facebook page (If you don’t already have one, get on that – it’s also probably the best way to stay in contact with customers regarding current jobs)
      – A blog – Share your expertise. It’s a great way to build trust and, as a bonus, it will also help with your search engine ranking

As for your list of requirements, you’re in luck, all of our top picks should allow you to achieve all of them pretty easily. I’d recommend reading the top few reviews and picking the one that matches your budget and capabilities.

      Best,

      Jane

Thank you for a great article. You made the picture more clear so I know exactly what to do now. Do you know whether Wix offers a free domain with one of their packages?

      Hi Ralph,
      Thank you for your feedback.
All Wix packages except the basic one ( “Connect Domain) include a free domain name.
